Overview

The Spearhead Traverse is a Canadian ultra-classic that connects the ski areas of Whistler and Blackcomb. Easy access to moderate, glaciated terrain makes the Spearhead Traverse a must-do for aspiring ski and snowboard mountaineers. The route follows the height of land around the headwaters of Fitzsimmons Creek, and crosses 13 glaciers over 22 scenic miles of rugged backcountry.

British Columbia is the promised land of backcountry skiing and snowboarding. Baker Mountain Guides’ proximity to Canada has allowed us to build operational familiarity with some of the best terrain in the great white north. Let us show you our Canadian powder cache.

Itinerary

Baker Mountain Guides offers scheduled, 3-Day Spearhead Traverses in March and April. Custom traverses are available.

  • Day 1: Blackcomb to Trorey Glacier

We’ll meet in Bellingham for gear check. Transportation will be provided to Whistler. We’ll ride the chairlifts to the top of the Blackcomb ski area, and tour into the Spearhead Range. Camp will be at the head of the Trorey Glacier.

  • Day 2: Trorey Glacier to Mount Fitzsimmons

Some of the best ski terrain on the Spearhead Traverse is concentrated at the head of the valley. The Tremor, Ripsaw, and MacBeth Glaciers offer long, fun descents. We’ll continue south over Mount Iago, and set up camp on the Diavolo Glacier.

  • Day 3: Fitzsimmons to Whistler

Mount Fitzsimmons, Overlord Mountain, and Fissile Peak make for a grand finale of rugged terrain and big ski lines. We’ll exit via the Musical Bumps, and ski down Whistler. If conditions allow, we’ll take a shortcut out the Singing Pass Trail.

Each Adventure is Unique.
