Overview

The beauty of the backcountry is that there are no rules. However, there are skills and techniques that will help you get the most out of your experience and increase your margin of safety. Baker Mountain Guides Intro to Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding Course is designed to teach the fundamentals of backcountry travel, and take you from the ski lifts to the skin track.

Backcountry skiing and snowboarding can seem overwhelming. Our patient instructors understand the challenges of touring for the first time, and can empower you with the practical skills necessary to experience your own backcountry adventures.


Itinerary

Baker Mountain Guides offers scheduled one-day Intro to Backcountry Courses. Custom dates available upon request.


  • Single Day

    We’ll begin the day with a brief discussion on backcountry touring equipment and clothing. Instructors will introduce topics such as skinning, track setting, kick turns, transitions, travel techniques, and group management. Students will take the lead and apply their new skills.
