Overview

Mount Baker was designed with skiers and snowboarders in mind. Rising 7000 feet above the surrounding landscape, Mount Baker offers over a vertical mile of skiing and riding. Massive winter storms bury the mountain each season, transforming the glaciers into smooth, endless runs. Headwalls, icefalls, and crevasses complete an iconic ski and snowboard mountaineering experience.

Baker Mountain Guides operates Mount Baker Ski Descents January through May. During the winter, we access the mountain with snowmobiles and ski powder on cold, clear days. The spring corn season begins in late April and often lasts well into the summer.

ITINERARY

Baker Mountain Guides offers custom ski descents of Mount Baker with a standard, three-day itinerary. One and two day itineraries available as well.

  • Day 1: Approach

Your guide will conduct a meet-and-greet and gear check, and supply guests with group equipment. We’ll carpool to the trailhead and ascend to high camp. The approach may involve both hiking and skinning.

  • Day 2: Training and Tour

On day two, we’ll cover snow climbing and touring skills. Guides will introduce cramponing, ice-axe arrest, and short roping. We’ll review touring equipment and techniques and spend the afternoon skiing and riding above camp.

  • Day 3: Summit and Ski Descent

Our departure will be timed to optimize the snow conditions. We’ll skin as high as possible, switch to crampons, and continue to the top. The descent begins with steep skiing and riding down the Roman Wall before easing off into endless glacial runouts.
