Overview

The Easton Glacier is perfect for beginners looking to learn the basics of glaciated climbing, and experience the thrill of a Cascade volcano! This three-day climb allows plenty of time to focus on both the ascent, and glaciated mountaineering skills. Climbers will learn the fundamentals of moving efficiently in the mountains, climbing with crampons, ice-axe arrest, and roped glacier travel.

We believe that each Easton Glacier ascent is unique. Our local knowledge, flexibility, and personable guides make for a customized experience that is measurably better. Join us for an ascent of our namesake, and see why we are proud to call ourselves Baker Mountain Guides.

ITINERARY

Baker Mountain Guides offers scheduled three-day ascents of the Easton Glacier. Custom itineraries available upon request.

  • Day 1: Approach

We’ll rendezvous at Backcountry Essential in Bellingham for orientation and gear check. Transportation will be provided to the Schrieber’s Meadow Trailhead. We’ll follow the trail through temperate rainforest, and ascend the Railroad Grade Moraine to Sandy Camp at 6000 feet.

  • Day 2: Snow School

We’ll spend Day 2 covering mountaineering skills important to our safety on the upper mountain. Guests can expect to learn the basics of cramponing, self-arrest, and rope travel. We’ll retire early in anticipation of summit day.

  • Day 3: Summit Day and Descent

We’ll wake before dawn and head up the mountain. The route passes Mount Baker’s active volcanic vent, before the final and steeper climb up the Roman Wall. After summiting, we’ll descend to camp and continue to the trailhead.

Each Adventure is Unique
