Overview

Crevasse rescue is an important skill for glaciated mountaineering. Baker Mountain Guides Crevasse Rescue Course focuses on providing fundamental skills for a variety of crevasse rescue applications. Concepts will be based on latest techniques being used by professional mountain guides. We begin with catching crevasse falls, and work through every component of the system until our victims are safely on the surface.

Baker Mountain Guides Crevasse Rescue Course is designed to be fun, engaging, and filled with practical field work. Our knowledgeable instructors strive to provide you with skills that are widely applicable, and make your educational experience as rewarding as possible.


Itinerary

Baker Mountain Guides offers scheduled two-day Crevasse Rescue Courses. Custom dates available upon request.


  • Day 1: Fundamentals

    We’ll rendezvous at Backcountry Essential in Bellingham for orientation and gear check. Transportation will be provided to the trailhead. We’ll ascend to high camp, and spend the afternoon covering crevasse rescue fundamentals and ice axe arrest.


  • Day 2: Crevasse Rescue

    We’ll ascend the mountain and find a suitable crevasse. Instructors will introduce and demonstrate the concepts of mechanical advantage and haul systems. Students will team up and practice all aspects of crevasse rescue, as both rescuers and victims.
